Steam Sterilisation - Ethylene Oxide Sterilisation - Dry Heat Sterilisation - Gamma Radiation Sterilisation

As part of the biological indicators range, Cherwell Laboratories offers a comprehensive range of spore strips manufactured by Raven Laboratories. The spore strips are designed for sterility testing in various sterilisation environments for both healthcare and industrial applications including steam, ethylene oxide, dry heat and gamma radiation sterilisation.

All our spore strips are certified for species, population, D-value, z-value (where appropriate) and expiry date. The expiry date is two years from the date of manufacture and is printed on each glassine envelope along with the lot number.

Our spore strips are packaged in a peel open glassine paper pouch. As glassine paper is permeable to sterilant but resistant to moisture and air in ambient conditions, this allows the user to transport the spore strip within the glassine from the steriliser to a laminar flow hood where it can be transferred into the recovery medium.

Spore Strip Product Range

Cherwell Laboratories supply spore strips with a range of populations suitable for the validation of sterilisation processes:

Geobacillus stearothermophilus (G. stearothermophilus) - used to validate and determine the adequacy of steam or chemical vapour sterilisation. Each strip contains a standard spore population of 10⁵ (10⁶ for validation procedures).

Bacillus atrophaeus (B. atrophaeus) - used to validate and determine the adequacy of ethylene oxide or dry heat sterilisation. For validation and routine monitoring each strip contains a standard spore population of 10⁶.

Bacillus pumilus (B. pumilus) - used to validate and monitor gamma radiation sterilisation. Each strip contains a standard population of 10⁶.

Combined Species Spore Strips - G. stearothermophilus (10⁵)/ B. atrophaeus (10⁶) - suitable for use in steam, ethylene oxide, dry heat or Chemiclave® sterilizers.
