Spore Suspensions

Steam Sterilisation - Ethylene Oxide Sterilisation - Dry Heat Sterilisation - Hydrogen Peroxide Sterilisation

As part of the biological indicators product range, Cherwell Laboratories distributes the range of spore suspensions available from Raven Laboratories and Apex Laboratories.

Spore suspensions are used to directly inoculate (and therefore challenge) a material or solution with a known concentration of spores and for preparing custom biological indicators for monitoring steam, ethylene oxide, dry heat, hydrogen peroxide, radiation and other industrial sterilisation processes.

Spore suspensions are available in a 40% ethanol solution or 100% deionised water and with a range of non-pathogenic spore-forming bacteria according to the required application.

Spore Suspensions

Spore suspensions are intended to determine if the device's carrier material or pharmaceutical's properties (viscosity, salt content, etc.) has any sporicidal or preservative effect that will impact the manufacturer's ability to sterilize the product and to determine instructions on how the user can sterilize the device if reusable.

The Raven range of spore suspensions, available from Cherwell Laboratories includes many species of spore-forming bacteria for various applications. These include commonly used Geobacillus stearothermophilus (steam sterilisation), Bacillus atrophaeus (dry heat and ethylene oxide sterilisation) and Bacillus pumilus (gamma irradiation) plus Bacillus subtilis and Bacillus cereus.

A range of spore suspensions, manufactured by Apex Laboratories for monitoring vaporised hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) sterilisation are also available.
