Cherwell Laboratories was founded by Lawrence Whittard in 1971 as a veterinary diagnostic laboratory.
Today, the business is a specialist supplier of products for environmental monitoring and process validation for healthcare, pharmaceutical and industrial applications.
From our site in Bicester, we manufacture Redipor® Prepared Media, our own range of microbiological media products which has been developed to meet the specific needs of our customers.
We are also supply SAS® and ImpactAir® microbial air samplers.
Cherwell focuses on supplying high quality and bespoke products supported by excellent customer service.
This ethos is fundamental to our values as a family business and helped us achieve ISO9001:2015 accreditation for:

Lawrence founded Cherwell Laboratories back in 1971, as a veterinary diagnostic laboratory. Since then, the business has evolved into a manufacturing and distribution company with clients across the UK and Europe. Lawrence said, "It is very satisfying to see how the company has developed, although I would never have guessed the path it would follow back in 1971! I am very pleased it has matured into a stable and profitable enterprise with a stable customer base."
Andy has been Managing Director at Cherwell since 2005. He originally joined the business in 1990 as a service engineer then transferred into sales, eventually joining the board as Sales Director in 1994. Since being appointed MD he has overseen significant growth in the business.
Andy is a Cranfield School of Management Business Growth Programme alumnus and is second generation in the family business.
Martyn joined Cherwell in 2015, having always been in manufacturing. He trained in Production Engineering and has led many disciplines from quality, process engineering, new product introduction, production and General Management. His industry experience spans from automotive to medical device/pharmaceutical and he has enjoyed global corporations to start ups and now back with a family owned enterprise.
Alan has been with Cherwell since 2016 as part-time Finance Director. He has over 25 years’ experience working in senior financial positions and was FD of several medium-sized manufacturing businesses in a variety of industries including electronics, paper and aerospace.
Since 2012, Alan has worked as an interim and part-time FD using his experience to help smaller businesses improve their financial performance
